普里莫·莱维（1919-1987）,意大利化学家,也被誉为意大利国宝级作家。他是奥斯维辛幸存者,第174517号囚犯,也是二十世纪最重要的知识分子,备受索尔·贝娄、菲利普·罗斯、卡尔维诺、安伯托·艾柯等文学大师的推崇。

1947年,莱维出版第一部回忆奥斯维辛经历的作品《 这是不是个人》时,卡尔维诺为他撰写书评,直至该书于1958年推出修订版,莱维终获文坛认可,迄今为止这本书已被翻成四十多种语言。

1945年,在奥斯维辛经历了11个月的折磨,从奥斯维辛集中营返回家中后,莱维继续从事工业化学的职业。凭《这是不是个人》《终战》这两部作品成为世界级作家后,莱维专事写作,相继创作《缓刑时刻》《其他人的悲剧》《元素周期表》和《被淹没和被拯救的》等。

1987年4月11日,莱维从都灵寓所跳楼身亡,官方推断原因为自杀。
