威提·依希马埃拉(Witi Ihimaera),一九四四年出生于新西兰吉斯本。威提·依希马埃拉是以英语写作毛利文化的先驱者。一九七二年出版的《綠岩綠岩》(Pounamu Pounamu)是毛利人所著的第一本短篇故事选集,一九七三年的《葬礼》(Tangi)则是毛利人所著的第一本小说,也贏得当年的Wattie文学奖。之后又以家族史诗小说《女族长》(The Matriarch)和《吉普赛女王》(Bulbasha, King of the Gypsies)两度获得新西兰的蒙大拿年度好书奖(Montana Book of the Year)。至今已发表八部长篇小说,五部短篇集,亦涉足舞台剧、交响乐编写、編刻和童书写作。他以自己独特的文化传承为荣和书写重心,數十年来热情推广毛利文学及文化,对提拔后进亦不遺余力。威提·依希马埃拉曾担任外交官多年,现任教于奥克兰大学,教授英文、毛利文、太平洋文学与写作。
