罗宾•道斯（Robyn M. Dawes）1958年获得哈佛大学哲学学士,后进入密歇根大学临床心理学系。两年后,他怀着对行为决策、社会互动和态度测量的兴趣进入了数学心理学系（1963 年获得博士）,并在数学方面完成了研究生教育。1985年秋转到卡耐基梅隆大学,在社会和决策科学系担任心理学教授,他现在是Charles J. Queenan,Jr. 大学的教授。道斯发表过150 多篇论文、出版了6 部书籍。
